THE BEANSMITH IN KELVIN GROVE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
The Beansmith is a secret cool late night* coffee house and roastery tucked away in a Kelvin Grove commercial back street.
While coffee is the star of the show (with Jersey milk from Cooloola) at this funky chilled out cottage roastery, delicious pastries from nearby artisan bakery Crust and Co are available for those who enjoy a little something with their brew.
Alternatively, take advantage of the serve yourself toast station, where for a small charge customers can enjoy Crust and Co bread with a selection of homemade jams and marmalades. On weekends, sourdough and fruit loaf can be found at the toasting station.
The decor at The Beansmith provides a laidback vibe and customers can choose to sit at individual tables or join others at a beautiful long table that is the centerpiece of the room. Outside seating is also available for those wanting to enjoy their coffee outdoors. The roastery's unique furniture has been crafted from recycled, hardwood fence timber from farms in the Byron area.
Behind Beansmith are Anthony Loberto and James Thompson, who have combined their experience and passion to set up the coffee roastery. Anthony comes from a family with a small business background and has been passionate about coffee since his uni days. A qualified engineer and former stall holder at the Kelvin Grove markets, he is The Beansmith's roaster and has a wealth of knowledge that he is happy to share with those interested in the bean. James is the creative force behind the business and brings with him experience in the coffee industry, hospitality and the music scene.
The partners believe in providing good service and a quality product to both their commercial and personal customers. Anthony is happy to provide free advice to those seeking to improve their daily brew and The Beansmith carries a range of coffee making products, kettles and scales, along with roasts suitable for espresso and filter coffee. Beans are sourced from Melbourne Coffee Merchants who specialise is beans from around the world. You can expect to find beans from countries such as Brazil, Bolivia, Rwanda, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Kenya, Costa Rica and Guatemala in blends at this roastery.
Each blend at The Beansmith incorporates three different beans - detailed information on all coffees can be found on the website. The Beansmith blend consists of Brazil Shangri La, Brazil Pedra Redonda and Bolivia Nicolas Colque - and it's a beautiful combination, well worth calling in for.
Nice to know - Future plans for the roastery include training courses in filter brewing, coffee roasting and barista skills. James' experience in the music industry will also see him lining up local independent artists to perform acoustic sets of an evening, when food trucks will be set up to provide a bite to eat for customers calling in between 6pm and 8.30pm from Wednesday to Friday. Drop by, try The Beansmith blend and enjoy a warm greeting and great service. For the latest news and details about the food trucks and entertainment, follow The Beansmith on Facebook.
