Treecycle Coffee Shop

Hamilton

TREECYCLE COFFEE SHOP HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Treecycle Coffee Shop is Portside Wharf’s hidden gem – a funky chilled out café that imports its own Colombian coffee beans and serve an all day breakfast worth travelling for.

On the back wall of the shop is a portrait of one of the coffee growers whose beans are behind the superb coffee which is served in-house. Owner Andreas (who hails from Colombia himself) has been in the coffee import business for years and uses local roastery Bacano to roast the single origin beans and come up with the special TreeCycle house blend, which is also available to take home.

But there’s more to Treecycle than great coffee. All of the food is based on carefully sourced and locally grown (where possible) produce – think free range eggs from Darling Downs, Mooloolaba prawns and goats cheese haloumi from Mt Tamborine. Meanwhile bread and pastries come from artisan Newmarket bakery Crust and Co. and the to-die-for Gravlax salmon is prepared from scratch in-house.

On the creative breakfast* menu (served from 7am till close daily) is everything from Bircher Muesli, French Toast and Bruschetta (Classic, Deconstructed Avocado or Salmon) to Eggs on Toast, Chicken BLT (sundried tomato tortilla wrapped with harissa spiced chicken, crisp bacon, tomato and lettuce) or the must-try Gravlax Salmon and Scrambled Eggs on sourdough Toast.

For something different there’s also Rice Paper Rolls (with Mooloolaba prawn filling) or Tingling Prawn Salad with Soba Noodles (Mooloolaba prawns, green beans, cherry tomatoes, shallots, orange, chilli, coriander and Spicy Sichuan dressing).

In addition there’s a small but delish range of salads, including Watermelon (watermelon, rocket, feta, cashew nut, red onion, harissa and lemon vinaigrette), Fruit Salad, Quinoa salad or the highly recommended Kale salad (kale, brown lentils, sunflower and chia seeds, walnuts, haloumi and walnut dressing).

For something quick and light there are French pastries (escargot, pain au chocolat or Torsada chocolate twist) and health bars such as Chocolate Orange Naked or Nutrient.

Cold drinks are also a house specialty at Treecycle, with a small but luscious range of smoothies on offer – try the Passion Pink (banana, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon, Greek yoghurt, honey and chia seeds and almond milk)- as well as Cold Pressed Juices: Rosado (pink), Verde (green) or Zapote (orange). The latter is a refreshing blend of carrot, mandarin, watermelon and orange, ideal for an alternative pick-me-up.

Need to know – You’ll find Treecycle Coffee Shop tucked away off the main Portside Wharf pedestrian precinct. From the Dendy Cinemas ground entrance cross the pedestrian mall to where Subway is and veer to the right and round to the left past Pineapple Express and the car park entry. It is on this little side road, a few doors down (on the opposite side of the street to Pineapple Express) and next door to a barber shop.

Nice to know - All dishes on  the menu are priced below $20. (at time of writing in Aug 2015)
