Lonely Boy Café
Spring Hill
LONELY BOY CAFE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Lonely Boy Café is a source of great coffee and top notch food found in one of Spring Hill's historic corner stores.
Owned by Brisbane cafe and bar veterans Mal and Bec, who kick-started the Stones Corner café scene some 8 years ago with Lady Marmalade and went on to liven up the night life with Shady Palms (and later the Milk Factory at South Brisbane), Lonely Boy is the cosy and friendly neighbourhood café this neck of the Spring Hill woods needed.
Here it's all about quality not quantity with a short sharp menu comprising All day Breakfast, Salads, Sangas complemented by a range of sweet and savoury treats available from behind the counter.
Everything is prepared and baked fresh daily at Lonely Boy. Breakfast includes deliciousness such as House-made Chai Museli, Yoghurt and Honey, Sourdough and Spreads with Sides (try the avocado, feta, dukkah, pomegranate and mint), Maple Bacon, Hash and Local Haloumi Brioche Burger or Cheesy Polenta, Roast Mushrooms, Dukkah, Goats Cheese and Fried Egg. Can't decide between breakfast and lunch? Then go for the Cheddar and Jalapeno Waffle with creamed corn, fried chicken nuggets with maple drizzle.
Come lunchtime there are Sangas such as the Knuckle Sandwich (shredded smoked pork knuckle and braised red cabbage) or Pork Belly Burger and Chilli Jam Slaw.
Four House Salads include Roast Pumpkin, Green Bean and Almond, Polenta Beetroot with orange and Goats Cheese, Lamb Trail Cous Cous (nuts and seeds, parmy, grains and parsley) with pomegranate and labna or the Waldorf (apple, pralines, bitter leaves, frisse, celery and red onion).
For something takeaway or quick, behind the counter there's also a daily salad, sangas such as Ham on Turkish, Egg and Truffle Mayo or Corned Beef with kraut, pickles, mustard and mayo, Fruit Toast with butter and jam and a small choice of savoury tarts.
On the sweets side look out for Lime Cheesecake, Blueberry and White Chocolate Mousse, Salted caramel and chocolate tarts or Cookies and Cream Brownies.
Well-brewed coffee is from Open House and, as well as the usual suspects, there's Ho-Cha Chai Lattes and Cold Saigon or Iced Coffee.
Meantime a selection of cold drinks from the fridge include Bundaberg Ginger Beer, Daylesford and Hepburn flavoured organic sodas, Hepburn Sparkling Water, Simple Juices and Teza Real Leaf Organic Tea.
