There's no place like Home, at least in Ashgrove. Cut off from the main island of grocery multinationals, this is one cafe worth crossing the busy street for.

Inside the owners have managed to create an oasis of Scandinavian calm with blonde wood tables and stools, white wicker chairs and shelves of stylish minimalist homewares while out back is a colourful room full of artworks where parents and children congregate.

The food is nothing short of delicious - try the roast vege and haloumi burger with eggplant and caramelized onion on perfectly toasted Turkish or the chicken Panini with sweet mustard. Breakfast is served till 2pm and there’s an excellent good value children’s menu for both breakfast ( egg on toast or cheesy toast soldiers $5) and lunch (sandwiches $3.50 or lunchboxes with fruits sweets and milkshake for $7.50).
