Padre Bar
Woolloongabba
PADRE BAR IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Padre is a quaint Woolloongabba dive bar which inhabits a gorgeous art deco shop that was once a draper, a tea room and most recently a Sri Lankan restaurant.
The creation of three men whose babies were born across the road at the Mater Hospital, there’s something about Padre that feels like a cross between the Cheers bar and the ‘Those Were the Days’ tavern that Mary Hopkins once trilled about.
Enter through the original wood-framed doors to a cosy interior with especially designed Padre wallpaper, exposed brick walls, art nouveau light fittings and a mix of upcycled and recycled benches and seating including tapestry covered bar stools.
Take a seat at the bar and partake in an on tap Estrella beer, house wine or cocktail, none of which will break the bank. For while Padre has a decent range of craft beers, cider and quality wines, (with especially crafted Plymouth and rare Scottish gins on the cards) the idea here is about being a local drop-in and casual place to hang out and enjoy a drink served by a barman with a beard and/or accent.
Need to know: Currently the basement, accessed by a darkened staircase near the front door is being fashioned into a private function area come prohibition bar lounge.
The kitchen will be opening in the new year to dish up a gourmet bar menu of share finger food.
