Cocktails on Kent is a chic little courtyard bar and café with a secret entrance, tucked away behind an historic Wooloowin dining hub.

Located in the back garden of iconic local French restaurant Rhubarb Rhubarb (and by the same savvy owners) Cocktails on Kent is a French-inspired café by day, cocktail bar by night.

Entry is via the red garden gate adjacent to Pomeroy Coffee Roasters and from there a garden path leads to the tiny leafy courtyard via 2 vintage pianos. Here, there’s an undercover bar with a cosy smattering of European patio furniture that is buzzing with locals, no matter what time of day.

Cocktails (available from 10am) are first class, with a mix of classics (think Tequila Sunrise, Daiquiris, Black or White Russian, Brandy Alexander, Negroni, Long Island Iced Tea and Between the Sheets) and French house cocktails such as French Connection (Cognac VSOP and Amaretto) or French Martini (vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice).

There are also cocktails to share including jugs of Sangria, Pimms (Pimms, gin, fruit, prosecco and lemonade) and Spritz (Aperol, prosecco, soda and orange twist).

Premium spirits are served here, including Gin Lane 1751 (Victorian styled London gin), Monkey Shoulder Scotch Whiskey Blend, Paris Seduction Brandy (VSOP) and Cognac Grande Champagne Croizet VSOP Gold as well as a selection of house spirits.

There’s also a great boutique wine and beer list with local craft beers, Champagne (Veuve Clicquuot and Moet et Chandon), cider, and Australian and international wines.

Food-wise the bar menu has a French flavour with offerings such as warm olive and duck parfait, Rilletes of smoked salmon (served with baguette, fries and parmesan cornbread) and delectable canape plates.

During its morning incarnation as a café, Cocktails on Kent has a breakfast menu (from 7-11.30am*) that includes Sautéed Mushrooms with Chevre (goats cheese), Ham Hock, Garlic and Pickle Rillettes, 2 fresh baked scones with vanilla marscapone and strawberry compote and

Poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce (all of which can be enjoyed with a Bloody Mary or a Breakfast Martini from 10am*).

For lunch (11.30-3) there’s a choice of Chicken and Bacon Roulade, Shredded Pork Pasta or Smoked salmon Rillettes.
