Tomahawk Bar
South Bank
TOMAHAWK BAR HAS CLOSED.
Brisbane’s newest craft beer bar is Tomahawk in South Bank - a sibling for Newstead’s Tippler’s Tap.
This simply-styled saloon with wall garden, timber trim and green tiled/copper-topped bar provides plenty of seating for patrons inside and outside – including a sixteen seater communal table overlooking leafy Grey Street.
With 13 taps of independent craft beers and ciders on rotation - including local brews like Brisbane Brewhouse Robust Porter, Newstead Session Ale and Bacchus Tomahawk IPA - there’s something for everyone. But if you can’t find what you want on tap, Tomahawk carries a large selection of bottled beer from overseas and interstate including specialty brews like Rogue Old Crustacean Barley Wine (Oregon, USA) and Murray’s Anniversary Ale (NSW); while ciders (pear, apple, organic and barrel fermented) and Australian wines round out the drinks menu.
Hearty, rustic fare inspired by beer ingredients includes slow cooked pork and fennel meatballs with toasted barley, hop marinated herb fried chicken pieces with salted caramel, sticky stout lamb ribs with mint yoghurt and baked camembert with warm herbed wort and Leavain bread.
Standouts though would have to be Tomahawk’s popular pot pies: hop-smoked trout, Belgium Dubbel mushroom and Imperial stout and lamb. Or for a real treat, try the Tomahawk trout for two – whole hop-smoked rainbow trout served with bread, fresh dill, horseradish, pale ale lemon butter and wort reduction.
If you still have room, try the beer infused housemade ice-cream served with warm malt or ask the bar keep to suggest a spider.
