Sonny's House Of Blues
Brisbane Cbd
SONNY'S HOUSE OF BLUES HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Sonny’s House of Blues, LA style dive bar, live music venue and channeller of everything 80’s, can be found skulking in a basement under the historic Rowes building in Brisbane CBD.
A much-needed addition to the CBD’s scant live music scene, Sonny’s is the fifth feather in the cap from the canny folk behind Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall, Los Villanos, Peasant and Gordita.
No need to put the glad rags on for this joint, just take a stroll down Rowes Lane and through a door on the left lies this kind of gritty underground fantasy space, with lamp lit booths along one sandstone brick wall, strings of coloured bulbs crisscrossing the low slung ceiling and a smattering of rock memorabilia.
Come evening, there’ll be herds of people drinking from a range of 40+ craft beers or 1980’s cocktails – think Long Island Iced tea and frozen Margaritas - and balancing baskets of Baja Californian style Mexican street food in one hand.
Until the bands strike up around 9.30 the music can be anything from Guns’n’Roses to Flock of Seagulls so settle in and grab a delicious quesadilla or burritio, an American beer, a seat if you’re lucky or a square foot of floor space.
Need to know - There is no cover charge, just rock up.
