The female saint Wilgefortis was probably the only woman in history for whom having a beard was not a curse but a blessing. For, legend has it, that it was the unsightly growth of lower facial hair for which she prayed that subsequently saved her from an unwanted marriage to the repelled King of Sicily.

Inspired by the story of St Wilgefortis and the anxiety, escape, liberation and relief it evokes, 9 Brisbane artists have run with the theme, their works incorporating the universal saint's colour blue and the result is this intriguing exhibition at the Art Factory Gallery which opens on the Feast of St Wilgefortis.

On opening night come feast day refreshments are available in return for a gold coin donation which goes to Ozcare women's refuges.
