Vintage Fair in the Whale Mall
Whale Mall
Queensland Museum
Melbourne St
South Brisbane
Aug 4 10-4
Free
A whale of a time will be had by all when the museum's alley of ancient hanging mammals goes vintage for a day. In the spirit of the Qld Museum's 150 years of collecting things and to coincide with the Museum's Gwen Gillam 1950's and 60's fashion retrospective, memorabilia and finery from the mid 20th century will be there for the trying and buying.
Over thirty stalls combine with a suitcase rummage to offer up vintage frocks, gowns, stoles, furs, handbags and hats, bric-a brac, jewellery, vinyl, costumes, homewares and curious crafts. Meanwhile in the background the haunting sounds of whale cries will be drowned out with the peep-toe tapping bluegrass sounds of The Company, Brisbane's original bluegrass band at 1pm and 2.15pm and in between acts a vinyl spinning DJ.
So throw on the baubles, bangles and beads and come dressed to impress or get primped and crimped on site by the glamorous Hayley Comet from the Bombshell Academy.
Country style treats and popcorn will be available on site for those not watching their hour glass figures.
For a further insight into eponymous 1950's and '60's fashion designer Gwen Gillam, talks will be given by the curators of her expo on the day in 'The Lounge' Level 4 at 11.30am & 1.30pm.
