What does a giant licorice allsorts shoe from the Sydney Olympics closing ceremony and a giant hairball from a bull's stomach have in common? They're both part of a wacky collection of oddities from the Sydney Powerhouse that have been given an imaginative makeover by master storyteller and illustrator Shaun Tan and are on show at the State Library over the winter months.
This extraordinary expo, which, when given the Shaun Tan imagination treatment, sees the shoe as a guide dog tracking device and the hair ball a Middle Ages crowd control cannon, demonstrates the incredible power of the imagination. But it's not just left up to Shaun, Oddities also invites visitors to apply their own ideas to the exhibits by making labels and writing stories about what inspires them.
