This poignant exhibition by Polish born artist Beata Batorowicz was inspired by a little known collection of children's stories, Fairy Tales from Auschwitz (Bajiki z Auschwitz) by Polish prisoners of that concentration camp who secretly wrote and illustrated them for their children while incarcerated in a living hell.
And as part of an exploration of the greater history of Polish/German experiences in World War II, she also borrows from rich European iconography across the broad spectrum of fairy tales, myths and folklore whereupon she weaves them in with her own personal narratives.
