The Chinatown Mall and Sunnybank Plaza will be ablaze with lanterns and alive with traditional festivities and performances during the Chinese lunar calendar's oldest and most important event, the Moon Lantern Festival, a time for celebrating new hope, health wealth and fortune. And this year is set to be the biggest ever with the festivities centring around their original home in the Valley for one weekend and moving to Brisbane's second hub of Chinese culture, Sunnybank for the next.

Headlining this festival is the must-see light gallery of 12 spectacular 7m high 3D Shanghai lanterns that hail for the first time from the Shanghai Expo. These set the scene and create a fabulous backdrop for the 3 days of dragon and lion dances, firecrackers, Chinese opera and singing, Martial arts, bamboo dance, classical musicians, magic and more.

Highlight of this festival is the mega free outdoor concert featuring a 12 piece classical Chinese orchestra, acrobats, a Chinese magic master and drum dances with supplementary non-stop performances of Chinese opera, Kung Fu, dance and a lantern parade.
