One of a few historical Brisbane movie theatres still in operation, the Hawthorne Cinemas started life as The Roxy in 1922 and in 1940 Cinema 1, the auditorium with the unique curved screen, was built and remains largely unchanged today.
Seeing a movie here continues to be a delightful yesteryear experience, especially if combined with a trip via the river, arriving at the nearby 1920’s Hawthorne ferry terminal with its charming little park overlooking Teneriffe’s woolstores.
The groovy little The Nook café down the lane at the side and entranced via the theatre too is child friendly so the combination of the rivercat trip, park, movie and café add up to a great day out for those with children.
