

In the age of sterile multiplexes there are a handful of cinemas, both art house and boutique, where movie-going is still an occasion. Or for the ultimate dose of nostalgia, head for the drive-in, where on Saturday nights the pyjama clad carloads still hook up to the retro speakers and watch the double feature with hot dogs and fries from the rock’n’roll diner.
Meanwhile theatre goers are limited for choice, with QPAC leading the charge for international and national touring productions and local offerings at the few independent but quality theatres dotted around the inner city areas.
Children’s theatre is largely confined to two venues which stage adaptations of fairy tales and classic literature on weekends and school holidays.
