West End To Broadway in the reservoir

Underground Opera’s latest 10 year anniversary instalment, West End to Broadway - in the Reservoir will fill Brisbane’s 'Underground Opera House' with uplifting, intriguing and sensational musical theatre from August 11 - 20.

The Spring Hill Reservoir is Brisbane's most unique performance space -  a series of vaulted caverns 6m underground with amazing acoustics and gothic hand-laid brick arches.

The adventure begins at the entrance, as guests venture six metres below Wickham Terrace into the 150-year-old reservoir, which up until 50 years ago, had supplied Brisbane its water. Guests can enjoy a glass of wine at the tiny wine bar before taking their seats in the intimate space for a night to remember.

UOC Director and Founder, Bruce Edwards (who also comperes the season) said audiences could expect a completely new and exciting edition of the popular West End to Broadway series.

“Volume 4 involves a completely new set of repertoire featuring celebrated pieces that graced the West End and Broadway stages from shows such as Mary Poppins, Funny Girl, My Fair Lady and a few contemporary stunners from Songs for a New World or Shrek the Musical! For the Disney lovers - there’ll also be some favourites,” Mr Edwards said.

UOC’s talented cast will include soprano Pia Frangiosa, mezzo Louise Dorsman, baritone Lionel Theunissen, while debuting tenor John Peek, accompanied by the incomparable Brendan Murtagh.

Performances are on Wednesday, Friday & Saturday at 7.30pm and on Saturday & Sunday at 1.30pm.
