Tom Gleeson brisbane city hall

It’s a sure thing that you’ll be laughing till your sides ache when Tom Gleeson brings his new stand-up show, Sure Thing, to Brisbane City Hall, March 22 – 24.

Another sure thing is that Gleeson’s brand of quick-witted humour delivered with a cheeky grin will be one of the hottest tickets of the Brisbane Comedy Festival. He’s fresh from a big year in 2017 so will have plenty of new material to try out on Brisbane audiences.

There was that time he paid out Karl Stefanovic on Today, and on his hit Hard Chat segment on The Weekly, he spoke with Sophie Monk and accidentally started a new season of The Bachelorette. The man’s obviously got power and is not afraid to use it.

One Herald Sun journalist has claimed that Gleeson could “take on hecklers for Australia” at the mythical Comedy Olympics, so audiences had better think twice before calling out at his show. You’ll definitely be taking on more than you bargained for.

Just ask the contestants on Gleeson’s fun ABC TV quiz show, Hard Quiz, which regularly wins its timeslot even though the winner’s prize is just a dubious looking brass mug. Participants who’ve chosen their specialist subject seem happy to be mercilessly roasted by Gleeson, and if one of them attempts a funny line, he fires back a doozy in record time.

It’s actually the comedian’s love of sparring with an audience that inspired him to make Hard Quiz into a series, and it’s also why you’ll be marvelling at his improvisational skills in Sure Thing.

*Thu $39; Fri $40; Sat $45
