Scenic Rim
Eat Local Week
Scenic Rim Eat Local Week offers up a dazzling array of delicious food and farming events from 24 June to 2 July, 2017.
There’s plenty to feast on in this annual event, a pleasant one-hour drive from Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding areas.
The Scenic Rim region’s fertile volcanic soil makes it perfect country for fresh products including wine, beer, food and other gourmet products, making this showcase a huge success and now in its seventh year. It also occurs in the school holidays, making it perfect holiday fun.
Says Scenic Rim Mayor, Cr Greg Christensen, “People are often surprised to discover just how much of their food is grown in this region…it’s a really unique opportunity for people to give their children an insight into the paddock to plate journey.”
There are no less than 90 individual events available to enjoy, with farm tours, cheese and wine tastings, cooking classes and exclusive producer dinners curated by leading chefs from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
It all culminates in signature event, the Winter Harvest Festival, on Saturday, 1 July, at Aratula. The region’s producers sell their produce, and there’s entertainment – from free kids’ rides and activities to a Tractor Pulling competition, live music and chefs’ cooking demonstrations. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the great outdoors!
Other highlights are Queensland’s largest carrot farm, an open day at a robotic dairy, a Farm Gate Festival in the Lost world, a Beer & Brewing night, and an open day at the Scenic Rim’s new Camel Dairy.
There’ll also be Lunch with the Lambs at Towri Sheep Cheesery with Cameron Matthews, and the Scenic Rim 4Real Milk open day. You can get up close and personal with farm animals such as geese and ducks, stroll through a vineyard before sampling their wares at a cellar door, feed goats, and sample delectable sweets.
