Opera In The Reservoir spring hill reservoir

The Underground Opera Company wraps up its 10th anniversary of 'extraordinary performances in breathtaking spaces' with Opera in the Reservoir at the Spring Hill Reservoir from 10-19 November.

Anyone who’s been in the amazing below-ground cavern and seen and heard the vocal talents of the Underground Opera singers won’t need to be coaxed into buying tickets for this highlight. There will be all your favourite arias, ensemble numbers and duets sung by soprano Dominique Fegan, Mezzo Soprano Kathryn Bradbury, Tenor Glenn Lorimer and Baritone Lionel Theunissen, with accompaniment by Mark Connors.

Because of the brilliant acoustics of the 150 year-old reservoir with its hand-lain brick archways, the singers aren’t usually miked up, so that you get a pure, natural sound in an intimate setting of just 120 patrons. It’s truly a special thing to experience.

UOC Founder and Director, Bruce Edwards, says that the past three years of performing in the Spring Hill Reservoir had been a huge part of the company’s history of seeking breathtaking spaces. (Check out other venues such as Opera in the Caves and Opera in the Castle on the website.)

Need to know – The performance space is suitable for anyone fit and able to use the steps. Women are advised not to wear stiletto heels as the steps leading down to the performance space have stiletto-sized holes in them.

Nice to know - Tucked away onsite is a cosy subterranean wine bar so patrons can enjoy a glass or two with the performance.

*Groups of more than 20 can be booked via [email protected]
