One of the all-time favourite musical theatre works, Les Misérables, will thrill audiences when Ipswich Musical Theatre Company presents it at the Ipswich Civic Centre, from 8 - 17 September.
IMTC's Artistic Director, Brenda Ryan, says of Boublil and Schöenberg's enduring creation, "Finding a production that could follow our sell-out 2016 season of Wicked meant something big, bold and an audience favourite. What else could it be but Les Misérables?"
The amateur theatre company always delivers for its audiences, and no doubt they'll be bringing all the passion and musical prowess to this production that they're renowned for. The well-known story is, of course, about hunted ex-convict Jean Valjean who agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette. Songs such as I Dreamed a Dream and Castle on a Cloud are beloved favourites for many people.
Chris Bradtke is working with Ipswich Music Theatre Company for the first time with this production. The seven-time Music Theatre Guild Best Director award-winner (with 20 nominations!) directs the cast which includes Robert Shearer as Valjean, Lionel Theunissen as the ruthless policeman Javert, Sophie Salvesani as Cosette, and Jessica Ham as Fantine. Music Director Robert Clark has worked with world-renowned stars such as Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, Tina Arena and Johnny Mathis, among others.
This is sure to be a very high-quality production and well worth the trip to Ipswich if you're not a resident of the provincial city that's just a 40-minute drive from Brisbane. There will only be seven performances so best to book your tickets soon.
