Hydra
Bille Brown Theatre
Hydra is the true love story of Australia’s famous literary couple, Charmian Clift and George Johnston, playing at the Bille Brown Theatre from March 9 to April 6.
Set in the 1950’s, love-struck authors Charmian and George flee post-World War II Australia to the idyllic island of Hydra in Greece, to carve out a Bohemian living as writers. But living in paradise has a price, as jealousy, infidelity, illness and alcoholism puts strain on their marriage, and their Aegean dream ends up in Greek tragedy.
Award-winning playwright/screenwriter, Sue Smith, has crafted a captivating tale of two of Australia’s literary icons, into a moving relationship drama.
