First Coat is a cutting edge Festival & Outdoor Gallery transforming the streets and laneways of Toowoomba’s CBD into Queensland’s largest open air art gallery for 3 days in May.
One of the largest regional art projects in Australia, First Coat brings together some 20 artists from Australia and across the ocean, including Cyrcle, Jeremy Fish and Lauren Holm (USA), and the likes of Mike Shankster (Sydney), Carla McRae (Melbourne), Sirmano (Brisbane), Tristan Kerr (Adelaide) and Toowoomba’s own Bronte Naylor.
Visitors can get to watch 30+ large-scale murals painted live (May 19 & 21), enjoy free artist talks throughout the city (May 20 & 21), and attend free Creative Workshops (May 20 & 21).
It’s also a chance to experience Toowoomba’s creative foodie culture at cafes such as Ground Up Espresso Bar, Ortem Café, Bunker Records & Espresso, restaurants such as The Finch, Sofra Turkish Cuisine, craft bars like Tapestry and pubs such as The Spotted Cow Hotel.
For those who wish to make a weekend of it without blowing the budget, check out accommodation options like Applegum Inn, Ruthmor Villas and Highlander Motor Inn.
