Des Alpes
Michelton
DES ALPES HAS CLOSED AND BEEN REPLACED BY TWO CHARMING FINCHES IN 2018.
Since quaint Swiss restaurant Des Alpes opened more than 20 years ago it has carved a niche for itself amongst Mitchelton locals and fondue fans.
On weekends, especially in winter the crowds pour in to partake in the homey traditional fare from the alpine regions of Western Europe. Zurich schnitzels, Kassler (smoked pork tenderloin) come in hearty helpings along with their signature rosti (potato).
But it is the fondue that is the leading act here – cheese can be ordered on the spot and meat and the chocolate need prior notice, with Gluhwein made in house (winter only) as the ideal sidekick.
Des Alpes also prides itself on its family friendliness and deservedly so – children have their own dishes including Rosti Pizza for $12.50 or a more substantial eye fillet or fish with rosti for $15.50. The menu itself has activities on the back and included are drinks and home made dessert.
Lastly, Des Alpes also makes a great place to drop in for a Swiss style all day breakfast.
